It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Keir. I write stories and make books and magazines.
What more might you want to know about me? I grew up in a small scientific community in the Canadian bush: home to Nobel Prize winning physicists and lumberjacks. At school, I was an athlete, but spent all of my time at home reading novels. The rest of the time, I was in the forest, on the river, or playing road hockey. When I was done with school, I raced bicycles on a professional team for a few years, an adventure that took me all around the world. I came to Europe to race with the Canadian national team and never left. Now, I live in Maastricht, The Netherlands, where I studied literature at the university.
During my studies, I got a job writing for Soigneur Cycling Journal, where I am now editor-in-chief. We make beautiful magazines and books and have built a great online community. In the meantime, I’ve also written stories for a couple of Lonely Planet books, done some travel work for Cycling Tips, and produced ads and films for the likes of Maserati, Shimano, AGU, and Komoot. This year, I decided to go back to university and am now doing an L.L.M in European Law. I wanted to learn how the EU works. It’s been a real challenge, but a rewarding one so far.
I still ride my bike a lot and can nearly keep up with my racer friends. I’ve also taken up running and got back into cross-country skiing. In the near-term, I want to climb Mont Blanc, do the Bob Graham Round, and write a novel.
I like cooking for people and learning about the things that they love. I’m a little bit obsessed with film photography myself.
No matter what, I make sure that I believe in the stories that I tell. It’s important to me that my work isn’t frivolous.
Thank you for dropping by. I would like to keep in touch.
